The centerpiece for this shorter style necklace is a vintage cast brass ring from the Dogon tribe of Africa.  The Dogon are a very interesting people who live on the dry southern fringe of the Sahara in Mali.  They create the most extraordinary architecture and ceremonial art.  This ring represents two pointed thatched granary roofs, and therefore abundance; it also suggests a pair of breasts, with the fertility and abundance associated with the nurturing mother.  It is a substantial ring with a rich patina.

I've placed it--via a bail beaded with tiny turquoise nuggets--onto a strand of tribal beads in colors of turquoise green, brass, and light brown.  Several of these are ancient stone: the two darker green tubes and a dusty turquoise disc are Olmec from Mexico and are over 2000 years old, predating the Maya, and the light aqua green cylindrical beads are equally ancient amazonite excavated in Africa.  With these are several African brass beads: Yoruba granulated brass beads and cast donut beads, a plain brass bead, and a larger pendant ring from Ethiopia which serves as a closure.  The small brass beads spacers are vintage brass from Orissa, India.  There are also green turquoise, Peruvian opal heishi, volcanic rock, picture jasper, fossil walrus ivory beads, and African bone prayer beads and trade glass.

The double hook closure was made by me of hammered brass with a brass wire wrap, and the necklace is strung on medium weight beading wire for durability.  The large-holed ancient stone beads have smaller glass seed beads inside to help stabilize them on the strand.

A beautiful, earthy, ethnographic treasure necklace!  Gorgeous on natural linen.

CARE:  Wipe with a soft, damp cloth to clean.

SIZE:  The total length of the strand of beads is 19 1/4", and the brass pendant ring is 2 1/4" long.

PRESENTATION:  This necklace will come to you giftwrapped in hand-decorated  and recycled earth-friendly packaging.  See my shop policies below for details.
