:: Lady of the Mojave ::

I imagine that these primitive-luxe earrings are like something that a lady of an ancient desert tribe might have worn, echoes of the colors and textures of the Mojave desert.

I have been gathering antique New Guinea shell currency over the years and lately it is becoming increasingly harder to find.   Known as "kwalia", these beautiful shell talismans are appealing in their organic simplicity, with their gently-aged patina and spiraling forms.  I've been able to match up several pairs of the smaller pieces for earrings, and these incorporate two of them.

Strung on two beaded loops, the kwalia are complemented by the dark glimmer of antique and ancient beads.  There are two types of antique French steel-cut metal beads here, a warm rosy gold and a dark bronze.  These beads have never been used; they came directly from their original hanks...so they have waited a very long time to be a part of something!  I love the luxurious look of these old beads that lend a bit of richness to a piece without being too desperately shiny.  Bronze keshi pearls, tiny beads of Pre-Columbian shell, and Thai Hill Tribe silver seed beads accent the strands, which are strung on durable beading wire.

My handmade ear wires are 20 gauge sterling silver, lightly hammered and oxidized, and wrapped with very fine oxidized sterling silver wire.

SIZE:  3 3/8" or 85 mm long.

CARE:  Rinse in cool water to clean and gently blot dry.  The silver may be polished with a soft, damp cloth.  I find that white shell will sometimes pick up dark marks from contact with metal.  If this happens, you can remove it easily with a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab.

PRESENTATION: The Lady of the Mojave earrings will come to you beautifully giftwrapped.  See the shop policies below for details.
