::Desert Quartz ::

The essence of simplicity, the pared-down elemental aesthetic of the desert.  An exquisite natural quartz crystal, double-terminated, filled with bubbles of water as it formed.  These remarkable crystals are called "enhydros", and carry both the earth and water element.  This beautifully structured quartz was drilled as a pendant by Gary Wilson in Tucson, AZ.  Perfect from any angle, it has no front or back and is lovely from all sides.  The necklace can be worn long, as shown, or you can try it doubled, with the crystal passed through the end of the loop to make a short necklace.

I wove the long cord out of golden tan nylon Conso cord, some of the old stock of this beautiful color that I have kept in reserve for special pieces like this.  It is accented with elements of bronze clay and a single bead of bone.  The large tube bead above the pendant rests on a wrap of cord to prevent slippage; it was molded from the shed horn cover of a pronghorn somewhere on Otero Mesa in southern New Mexico.  The texture is outstanding.  The cord is joined at a ring which was molded from fossil rock found in the Quebradas area of central New Mexico...wonderfully primitive, these pieces capture the wild essence of the Chihuahuan Desert.

...If I could only have one necklace, this is the kind of talisman I would choose.

SIZE:  22 1/2" from the back of your neck to the base of the crystal.  The crystal is 2 1/8" long.

CARE:  The Conso cord is very tough and durable, and it is a little stiff when new but will soften as you wear it.  I recommend rinsing it in water every time you take it off, and letting it air dry.  This also keeps it clean.  You can spot clean or immerse this cord in water with detergent if it becomes soiled.  A product such as Eucalan, made for delicate fabrics, is recommended.

PRESENTATION:  This necklace will come to you beautifully giftwrapped.  See my shop policies below for details.
