:: Eye of the White Bajada ::

Here's another one in the Eye Ring series, an all-sterling silver construction with deep hammered texture and patina. These rings look like primitive artifacts, worn by time, and I love layering the different surfaces and patinas together. Eye amulets of different sorts have been very popular across the world for millennia. Traditionally, eyes are associated with warding off the "Evil Eye"--the malevolent gaze of another--and with vigilance and awareness. They represent the protection of clear seeing.

I've been making these riveted coin rings for years and they have been very popular with my customers, who often say how surprisingly comfortable the rings are to wear. This is because I dap the bezel with a slight upward curve so it doesn't interfere with the movement of your hand, while the elements are centered and close to the base, making it well balanced. The shank underneath is broad but not too much so, and it tapers a little beneath your finger for added comfort.  Finally, all of the metal is sanded and finished so that it is very smooth to the touch, despite its primitive appearance.

Each one of these rings is unique. I cut and finish each piece of metal entirely by hand, using a process that gives the metal an ancient, time-worn look. This one has a pair of vintage British West African coins, minted in the 1940s. The larger of the two is a penny (believe it or not) and the smaller one above it is a tenth-penny.  Both have a wonderful patina. The silver bezel holding them and the ring band have been hammered on desert rock. Between the coins is a piece of hammered bronze, and above the coins is the bronze element that gives the ring its name, for it was molded from a boulder of pale granite far out on a white alluvial fan in the Mojave desert.  The stack is set with a sterling silver rivet above a brass bead; this is one of two sterling rivets that hold the ring together, and it is a very solid piece.

These rings are outrageous and fun to wear, and always draw comments from interested admirers!

SIZE: The shank adjusts to around a ring size 8-9, give or take a little. The bezel holding the riveted coins measures 2 1/16" x 1 1/2".

CARE: Wash and wear as desired. Do not scrub the ring or you will damage the patina...let it become richer with time and wear. When adjusting the shank to fit, only bend it slowly and gently.

PRESENTATION:  This ring will come to you beautifully giftwrapped.  See my shop policies below for details.
