A walk in the Sonoran desert is always a revelation.  Cactus and stone take an endless variety of fascinating and contorted sculptural forms...a Japanese garden on psylocybin.  The weathered skeletons of the giant saguaro cactus are especially interesting.  These great beings, who hold earth and sky together on the bajada, leave behind a pithy, woodlike core when they die, the essence of a long sunwashed life.

I found this fragment of saguaro skeleton on the north side of the Catalina Mountains one warm winter day, and made two molds from it onsite.  This sterling silver cuff was formed in one of those molds and it captures the rich texture down to the finest detail.  It was made from sterling silver metal clay, hand-formed with the perforations carefully carved out as the clay dried.  I find that the cuff needed very little interference from me except to lightly refine some of the edges; the texture speaks for itself.

The cuff was fired in my kiln and the silver was oxidized and lightly refined to a satiny glow.  As you wear this piece the edges and high spots will brighten, adding another layer to its story.

The pure essence and form of the desert...

SIZE:  The internal dimensions of the cuff are 2 1/2" x 2", or 60 mm x 53 mm.  The opening is 7/8" or 21 mm.  This size can be increased or reduced by opening the ends up to 1" or 26 mm in either direction.  When you receive this cuff, you will have the option of carefully reshaping it for optimal fit on your arm.  As you do this, be sure to support it securely and bend it very carefully and slowly.   The cuff itself is 3/4" or 18 mm wide.

CARE:  Even with a bit of flexibility to the metal, a cuff bracelet should not be bent a lot as you put it on and take it off, as this will cause metal fatigue leading up to eventual breakage.  Other than that, this is a very durable piece that will only improve with age.  The patina will deepen over time.  You can buff it with a dry kitchen scrubbing pad to brighten it with a matte surface.  You can also polish it with a silver polishing cloth but that will produce a much shinier finish.  Otherwise, wash with soap and water as desired.

PRESENTATION: This bracelet will come to you beautifully giftwrapped.  See the shop policies below for details.
