Just to let you know, I am spending this week creating new malas, which are being listed in my Etsy shop, Desert Talismans. It was a perfect storm of circumstance: my son recently adopted a kitty we found wandering our coyote-, bobcat- and owl-populated neighborhood. He named her Freyja, took her to his new home way over on the West Mesa, but has now had to leave for two weeks to go help his dad (my first ex) finish packing (he was the one who bought the house) and then drive with him out here. Meanwhile my other ex (second ex...it's a weird, extended family we have, because we all get along as long as we don't have to live together) would ordinarily be able to have her stay with him, but he's been called away on a weeklong business trip. So I'm left holding the bag. With the cat.
If you wonder why I seek tranquility in my work, look no further.
Which is why I'm making malas...I'm spending the afternoons over there with Freyja to keep her company in the large empty house, and malas are the most easily portable work I can do. So that's what I'm making! They double as gorgeous necklaces without looking too obviously mala-ish and they have solid, quality construction designed to withstand daily use. Don't pass these lovelies by!
