This is a talisman necklace with an Anasazi soul. Yes, I know that term is outdated, but I’ve always loved the wild music in it. It seems to fit the lands the Ancestral Puebloans used to inhabit. And it’s easier to say.

Two of the bronze and fine silver metal clay talismans were created onsite or from molds around the Mesa Verde region of southwestern Colorado. The longer bronze pendant and the tube bead on the chain were molded from a fragment of weathered juniper wood found near the Dillard Site, an ancient Basketmaker site on the Great Sage Plain that includes one of the first great kivas. The smallest talisman, made of fine silver, was impressed on a live juniper branch about a year ago at the Far View Sites in Mesa Verde. The large silver pendant was directly impressed on 300 million year old fossil rock from central New Mexico, when this land used to be a shallow equatorial sea. The small rectangular pendant was impressed with an Ancestral Pueblo potsherd.

All of these hang from a sterling silver chain which I’ve sanded and oxidized, and joined with a link of hammered sterling silver that holds the tube bead. The oval bails for each talisman were made from sterling silver also, hammered on desert rock, oxidized, and sanded.

It’s a beautiful piece to connect you to the deserts and ancestral places of the high Southwest.

SIZE: The necklace measures 19 1/2” from the back of your neck to the end of the longest talisman, when worn. That talisman, the bronze weathered juniper, is 3 1/4” long including its bail.

CARE:  Wash and wear as desired. Soap is fine. You may polish the metal with a silver polishing cloth if desired.
